Courts and Arbitration: Tension, Trust and Transformation

Description:

Presenting the keynote address and the first panel for GAM2026.

The keynote revisits the Alabama Claims Arbitration, a landmark moment in international dispute settlement. It explores how the CSS Alabama dispute was resolved through the Treaty of Washington and the Geneva arbitration, helping avert a major U.S.?U.K. crisis. The session also traces how these events inspired Andrew Carnegie?s ?Temple of Peace? vision and the creation of the Peace Palace in The Hague.

Our first panel explores the evolving relationship between courts and arbitration, from judicial support to recognition and enforcement. Speakers will share perspectives from the bench, counsel, and the arbitral tribunal, highlighting key regional trends and practical takeaways.
