The Annual Bingham Lecture: A Judge's View on the Rule of Law

Description:

The rule of law is a vital bulwark in a time of uncertainty of the powers of the government, Parliament and the courts, as well as in the context of democratic legitimacy and popularism. The extent of the rule of law must be examined in the context of the work of Lord Bingham, who embraced it with every fibre of his judicial being. Lord Judge will offer some reflections from the perspective of a former judge who is now a member of the legislature. Chair: The Rt Hon the Lord Phillips of Worth Matravers, President of the British Institute for International and Comparative Law The Rt Hon Lord Judge PC, former Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales will deliver the lecture. The Rt Hon Chief Justice Dame Sian Elias GNZM PC QC, Chief Justice of New Zealand will respond providing an international perspective.
