International Criminal Law Discussions

  • The aim of the paper is to discuss de lege ferenda the scenario of a broadened R2P doctrine that would encompass the crime of aggression.

  • Dear colleagues,

I am happy to announce the publication of my book, The Armenian Genocide Legacy, published by Palgrave Macmillan (November 2015).
It is an interdisciplinary volume dealing with the relevance of the Armenian Genocide 100 years later, its legal ramifications and its impact on various areas of study.
I led the book as the editor in addition to writing a chapter on the failure of judicial systems during armed conflicts. There are 20 chapters in total, with a foreword by Dr. Ronald G. Suny (University of Michigan; University of Chicago), and chapters by several authors including Geoffrey Robertson, Susan L. Karamanian, Dr. Ugur Umit Ungor and many other contributors. Here is a brief summary:

On the centennial of the acts commonly referred to as the Armenian Genocide, academics and professionals from a variety of disciplines discuss the impact of the Genocide in their respective fields. In this volume, they assess why it still remains relevant to discuss the Genocide today, as well as its global ramifications and its equally long-lasting mark. Some contributions make the case for the use of aspects of the Armenian Genocide for comparative studies, in order to study the emergence of patterns between conflicts. Others focus on the impact of the Genocide on their specific fields of study. Tackling this theme from the perspective of history, law, sociology, anthropology, political science, literature, education and media studies, The Armenian Genocide Legacy relies on an interdisciplinary approach to expose the complexity of the genocidal process, while marking the centennial of the Armenian Genocide.
