The Government Attorneys Interest Group will provide a forum for the discussion of international legal issues of particular interest to international lawyers or other foreign affairs professionals working for the United States Government or other governments and international organizations, including diplomats posted to embassies, missions or consulates in Washington, New York, and elsewhere. Among the topics that will be addressed by the group are special considerations relating to the professional responsibility of the government lawyer practicing in the field of international law, special features of government practice, the role of foreign ministry legal advisers in the development of international law, and the role of justice ministry lawyers and those of other comparable national institutions in the domestic development of international law, including its application by national courts. The Interest Group intends to pursue these and other issues through an online discussion forum, networking events, publications, programs (e.g. in-person, webcast, webinar), and a Substantive Session or Annual Business Meeting during ASIL’s Annual Meeting. Membership in the Interest Group is open to all.
