In this ASIL Webinar, David Scheffer, former U.S. Ambassador at Large for War Crimes Issues (1997-2001), will discuss and take questions on U.S. policy toward the upcoming Review Conference of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court. Scheffer will also explore what has changed since he led the U.S. Delegation in the negotiations leading to the adoption of the Rome Statute in 1998. The Rome Statute is the treaty that established the International Criminal Court, and to which the U.S. was a signatory until 2002. This is the first Review Conference of the Rome Statute, and it takes place from May 31 – June 11 in Kampala, Uganda. At the Review Conference, the U.S. will be participating as an observing non-State Party during negotiations of key issues such as the proposed addition of the crime of aggression to the jurisdiction of the Court. | ||||
