Investment Protection and ISDS

Description:

States have in the past 20 years concluded close to 3 000 international agreements on free trade and investment protection to facilitate mutual economic growth and development. The majority of such agreements include provisions on ISDS.

At this event, ICSID Secretary General Meg Kinnear and SCC Secretary General Annette Magnusson, representing the two ISDS institutions where more than 65% of the world’s known ISDS cases have been administered, will come together to discuss some of the most frequently asked questions about ISDS, as well as share insights of the practical management of ISDS cases.

The discussion will be moderated by Thomas Gür, Entrepreneur & Author.

Questions which will be addressed include

• What is the background to the development of ISDS, and how does it work in practice?
• What are examples of issues typically addressed in ISDS, and who decides the disputes?
• How much does it cost, and what happens after the award has been rendered?
• Distinguishing features of ICSID and SCC procedures in an ISDS context.

Lunch will be served during the seminar.
