Fighting Corruption: Are We at the Crossroads? [1]

Date:
Tuesday, June 7, 2016 - 11:45am to 1:00pm
Description:

Grand corruption erodes development effectiveness, stealing billions from education, health and other basic human services. It fuels income inequality, political instability and, even, armed conflict.  While there has been good progress securing the global legal framework, in too much of the world, corruption retains its stranglehold and has, in some cases, become institutionalized. What have we learned from our successes and failures and how should the international community combat impunity and secure accountability?

Please join the World Bank Group's Integrity Vice President Leonard McCarthy in a frank discussion based on his eight years leading the Bank’s investigations unit and his prior experience as head of South Africa’s Directorate of Special Operations, overseeing investigation and prosecution of major corporate and organized crime.

This event is presented by the U.S. and International Anti-Corruption Law Summer Program at ASIL Academic Partner American University Washington College of Law. ASIL is a cosponsor of this event.
