Sextortion: When Sex is the Bribe Demanded [1]

Date:
Monday, June 6, 2016 - 11:45am to 1:00pm
Description:

Sextortion - the abuse of power to obtain a sexual benefit - is a pervasive and underreported form of international corruption.  From the highest government officials to public sector supervisors to teachers, those in power exploit the most vulnerable in developed and developing countries.

Join ASIL Academic Partner American University Washington College of Law's U.S. and International Anti-Corruption Law Summer Program for a discussion of how sextortion arises, application of the evolving global anti-corruption legal framework to tackle it, and examples of successful resistance to it.

Speakers:

  •  Nancy Hendry, International Association of Women Judges (IAWJ)
  •  Judge Sauda Mjasiri, Court of Appeal, Tanzania
  •  Roey Rosenblith, Not In My Country
  •  Suaky Vintimilla, Center for the Study of Bribery and Extortion Situations, Ecuador

Moderator: Lisa Davis, IAWJ
