US Senate Foreign Relations Committee Approves Disability Treaty (July 22, 2014) [1]

On July 22, 2014, in a vote of twelve to six, the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee approved the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities [3]. The purpose of the Treaty “is to promote, protect and ensure the full and equal enjoyment of all human rights and fundamental freedoms by all persons with disabilities, and to promote respect for their inherent dignity.” Currently, 147 countries [4] are parties to the Treaty.
