On April 23, 2014, the U.N. Secretary-General confirmed receipt [3] of Tunisia’s notification of withdrawal of its declaration and reservations with regard to the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women [4]. The Tunisian government stipulated in the letter “that it shall not take any organizational or legislative decision in conformity with the requirements of this Convention where such a decision would conflict with the provisions of chapter I of the Tunisian Constitution.” Tunisia ratified [5] the Convention on September 20, 1985.
