Columbia Arbitration Day 2018 will take place on March 2 at Columbia Law School in New York City. This year’s theme is “The Way Forward: International Arbitration Meets a New Global Reality.” The conference will feature four panels covering topics in commercial, investment, and interstate arbitration, as well as a lunchtime keynote address by Paul Friedland (White & Case) on “The Global Economy and the Business of International Arbitration.”  

At this year’s event, the ASIL Dispute Resolution Interest Group (“DRIG”) has partnered with Columbia Law School to organize a panel exploring three fora designed to resolve disputes with or between sovereign states: interstate arbitrations, international courts, and investor-state arbitrations. The panel, comprising O. Thomas Johnson of the Iran-U.S. Claims Tribunal, as Moderator, and panelists Marney Cheek of Covington & Burling, Eric de Brabandere of Leiden University, Clara Brillembourg of Foley Hoag, and Khawar Qureshi QC of Serle Chambers, will explore the similarities and differences among the three fora, as well as the potential scope for interaction and coordination among them.
