New Frontiers In Anti-Discrimination Law: International Human Rights Law on Persons With Disabilities [1]
Theresia Degener, Chair of the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, will present on the Committee’s jurisprudence on the right to be protected against discrimination and the right to equality, and will put this jurisprudence in a broader context of human rights and disability. In particular, the focus will be on the draft General Comment No 6 on Art. 5 CRPD (equality and nondiscrimination). Degener is professor of law and disability studies at Protestant University of Applied Sciences in Bochum, Germany and director of the Bochum Center of Disability Studies. Currently she is Chair of the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. She co-authored (with Gerard Quinn) “Human rights and disability: The current use and future potential of United Nations human rights instruments in the context of disability” (2002), the background study to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).
