The Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act at Forty: U.S. and International Perspectives [1]

Registration is now open for this one-day conference celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act (FSIA) of 1976, to be held at ASIL Academic Partner Georgetown University Law Center. This symposium will assess 40 years of U.S. experience under the FSIA and consider the role of foreign sovereign immunity in the evolving international order.

Panels of distinguished scholars, practitioners and judges (both U.S. and foreign) will  focus on such topics as:

  • The FSIA:  Origins, Expectations, and Surprises;
  • Sovereign Immunity in International  Law and Practice;
  • Critical Issues: Enforcement, Terrorism, Human Rights;  and
  • The Argentine Debt Case and International Management of Sovereign Debt  Issues.

Chief Judge Diane Wood, U.S. Court of Appeals (7th Circuit) will deliver the keynote presentation after a luncheon in honor of Monroe Leigh.  A reception will follow the final panel.
