International Humanitarian Law: A Primer for Professionals [1]

Date:
Thursday, May 28, 2015 - 9:00am to 5:00pm
Description:

This event aims to educate practitioners and the public on the Geneva Conventions and their Additional Protocols, explaining the protections they afford to war victims and the limitations they impose on warring parties. Developed and taught by American Red Cross attorneys who are experts in the field of international humanitarian law, this one-day course uses real-world examples, hypothetical cases, videos, and a combination of traditional lecture, discussions, and games to engage participants. Topics include the types of armed conflict, distinction between civilians and combatants, rules on the conduct of hostilities, special protections for persons and objects, and the role of the Red Cross in armed conflict, among others. This workshop is suggested for lawyers, journalists, professionals in international relations, and law students. CLE credits are available for a low fee.
