ASIL-Harvard Law School Conference Description

On December 1-2, 2006, ASIL and the Harvard Law School initiated a transnational judicial dialogue among more than 25 senior judges from international courts and constitutional and supreme courts in Asia, Africa, Europe and Eurasia, Latin America, North America, and Oceania.

Participants considered questions related to the role and effectiveness of judicial networks in strengthening the administration of justice and offered prescriptions for improving the work of judicial networks and other organizations involved in international judicial assistance efforts in the following areas: 1) Ethics and the Role of a Judge in a Democratic Society, 2) Judicial Education in an Era of Globalization, and 3) Efficiency and the Enforcement of Judgments.

These and related topics are priorities for ASIL in working with judges, judiciaries, judicial networks, and related organizations to promote a just world under law.
