Who should attend the ASIL 2008 Annual Meeting?
As the premier gathering of international legal experts worldwide, the ASIL annual meeting has sessions that would appeal to a broad range of audiences including:

What does my registration fee include?
Your registration fee includes access to all panel sessions and plenary sessions (space permitting), the Grotius reception, the President’s reception, and attendance at the Interest Group meetings and socials. All other events require ticket purchase for entrance. Non-members also receive a one-year membership in ASIL with their registration fee.
Can I register for the meeting onsite?
Yes, you may register onsite at the meeting. However, higher registration fees will apply for onsite registrations. We strongly encourage you to register in advance via the ASIL website. By registering early, you will have a speedier check-in when you arrive at the meeting and guarantee your meal tickets. On-site availability of tickets for meal functions is limited.
Will I receive a refund if I have to cancel my registration?
Refunds are available based on when you cancel. If you cancel on or before February 18, 2008, you will be refunded 100% of your registration fee, less a $25 administrative fee to cover the cost of processing. If you cancel between February 19 and March 28, 2008 you will be refunded 50% of your registration fee, less a $25 administrative fee. No refunds will be available for cancellations made after March 28, 2008 or for no-shows. Requests for refunds may be submitted via email to services@asil.org, or call (856) 380-6810.
Will I receive a confirmation of my registration?
For registrations made on-line, confirmation of registration will be sent via email immediately. For registrations made via phone, please allow one week for processing; confirmation of registration will be sent via email immediately upon processing. For registrations made with check payment via mail, please allow two weeks for processing; confirmation of registration will be sent via email immediately upon processing. If you do not receive confirmation after 30 days, please do not hesitate to call (856) 380-6810 or e-mail services@asil.org.
Will I receive a receipt for my registration?
Yes. You will receive two e-mails, a registration confirmation and a purchase receipt.
I have registered for the meeting but would like to make changes to my name on my badge. How do I do this?
Your meeting badge will be created using the name and affiliation information submitted in your registration. If you would like to change the information on your badge, you may do so onsite at the meeting registration desk.
Which hotel has a room block for this meeting? What are the rates?
A block of rooms have been set aside at the Fairmont Hotel at the discounted rate of $229 single/double. Overflow blocks of rooms have been set aside at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel ($249.00), the Hilton Washington ($259.00), and the Westin Arlington Gateway ($219.00). The ASIL Annual Meeting coincides with the World Bank Spring Meetings and the Cherry Blossom Festival, so rooms are expected to be scarce and conference registrants are encouraged to make their reservations early. I am a student and would like to share a hotel room with another student to reduce costs. Any suggestions on how to arrange this?
ASIL does not have the ability to coordinate housing for students. We suggest you network at your school and through other schools to find other students with whom to share housing.

What airport is most convenient to fly into? How far is the airport from the hotel?
The closest airport to the Fairmont Washington DC is the Reagan National Airport (airport code: DCA). In normal traffic, it’s about a 15 minute drive from the airport to the hotel.
Washington Dulles International (airport code: IAD) is the next closest airport, located about 30-40 minutes from the hotel.
Baltimore/Washington International Airport (airport code: BWI) is also convenient to DC, located about 45 minutes to 1 hour drive from the city.
What’s the best way to get from the airport to the hotel?

From the Foggy Bottom Metro Station
- Take the escalators to the street level.
- Make a U turn and walk away from the escalators.
- Continue to the corner of 24th Street, NW and make a right turn.

What is the dress code for the Annual Meeting?
Business attire is encouraged for all meetings and events at the ASIL 2008 Annual Meeting. At the Annual Dinner, many prefer cocktail attire.
Can I receive CLE credit for attending the ASIL Annual Meeting?
CLE will be available for limited sessions and jurisdictions. Please consult the program for more information about which sessions will include CLE.
Where can I eat lunch while at the meeting?
Lunch will not be available this year for attendees as part of the meeting. The Juniper restaurant in the Fairmont is open for lunch daily. Alternatively, there are many cafés and restaurants within a short walking distance of the hotel. A list of recommended cafés and restaurants will be available at the ASIL Registration Desk.
Will I have Internet Access while at the meeting?
Internet Access is available in the hotel’s Business Center on the Mezzanine Level. Business Center hours are 7:30am – 4pm. All other hours are self-service using a major credit card. Wireless internet is available in the hotel lobby for hotel guests who have previously ordered high-speed internet access in their guest rooms. Wireless internet is not available in the meeting rooms.
Tell me more about the WILIG Luncheon and Hudson Medal Luncheon.
A long-standing Annual Meeting event is the WILIG luncheon where WILIG (Women in International Law Interest Group) members and friends introduce themselves to underscore the importance of the WILIG network in advancing the place of women and women’s issues both in ASIL and in international law. A feature of the WILIG luncheon is the presentation of a Prominent Woman in International Law Award.
The ASIL Manley O. Hudson Medal is awarded to recognize scholarship and achievement in international law. The Hudson Medal winner is the featured speaker at the Hudson Medal luncheon. This year's Hudson Medal winner is Professor John Jackson of Georgetown University Law Center.
Tell me more about the Annual Dinner.
The Annual Dinner is a centerpiece of the Annual Meeting featuring a distinguished keynote speaker. All attendees of the ASIL Annual Meeting are invited to attend. Tickets for the dinner must be purchased separately. You may purchase tickets through the Annual Meeting registration website, or by contacting services@asil.org. Tickets will be available for purchase through April 4, and will not be available to purchase onsite at the meeting.
Can I attend the Interest Group Meetings and Socials?
ASIL members have formed 20 interest groups to broaden interest in, and study of, international law and to encourage inquiry into particular fields of international law. Many of these groups will meet informally at the Annual meeting, by hosting morning meetings or evening “socials”. All are welcome to attend, although you must be an ASIL member to join an interest group. Watch the Annual Meeting agenda for details on when these meetings and socials will take place.
What is the other international law group that is holding an event at the Fairmont during the ASIL Annual Meeting?
The International Law Students Association (ILSA) will be holding the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition and its Spring Fall Conference from April 6-12. ASIL Annual Meeting attendees are invited to attend the Advanced Rounds of the Competition, which will be held on Thursday (Run-Off Rounds) and Friday (Quarterfinals and Semifinals) at the Fairmont. Will audio recordings of the panel sessions be available for purchase?
Yes, audio recordings of the panel sessions will be available for purchase. You may place your order during the online registration process, or you may place an order onsite at the Annual Meeting at the CadmiumCD exhibit table. Orders may also be made through the ASIL website following the Annual Meeting. The audio recordings of the proceedings of the ASIL 102nd Annual Meeting will become available approximately two weeks following the meeting. When you place your order, a cd will be shipped to you which will give you online access to the digital recordings (as early as approximately two weeks after the meeting). Each recording will be available in MP3 and .WAV format. Prices are $79 for ASIL members and Annual Meeting attendees, and $149 for non-members and non-attendees. When will Proceedings of the 102nd Annual Meeting be available for purchase?
Proceedings of the 102nd Annual Meeting will be available for purchase toward the end of 2008 or early 2009. You may place your order for Proceedings in the Annual Meeting section of the ASIL website, and the book will be sent to you when it is published.
