ASIL offers students opportunities to become involved with the
important work of our organization while learning first-hand about
the field of international law – see the interesting options
available below.
All positions are based in ASIL's Washington, D.C. headquarters
and require a minimum commitment of 15 hours per week during the
fall and spring semesters, and 20 hours per week during the summer
semester, unless otherwise noted. All internships are unpaid; however,
you may be able to earn academic credit through your school.
Unless otherwise noted in the position description, please submit

INTERNSHIP POSITION DESCRIPTIONS
ASIL Web site -
Assist Web Content Editor with web changes and maintenance, editorial functions associated with e-publications and multimedia projects. Applicant should have knowledge of html, web publishing, and Macromedia Flash design and/or programming.
Communications & Development -
Assist in compiling and editing the ASIL Newsletter; research prospective funders; assist in foundation, sponsorship, and individual giving efforts.
External Relations -
Assist External Relations Manager with day-to-day tasks of running the office. Duties typically include: helping to maintain external contact lists, conducting research on persons, news media outlets, and topics of interest to the Society, photographing and writing descriptive captions of ASIL events, assisting with email distribution of news releases and other communiqués and responding to external inquiries, placing phone calls to reporters in advance of ASIL events, helping maintain the ASIL media archives and posting ASIL-related news stories on the web site.
Qualifications:
At least two years of undergraduate study. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Outgoing nature, attention to detail, flexibility, and eagerness to learn. Interest in international affairs and public relations. Computer skills should include Word and Excel.
Note:
This is an unpaid, part-time, temporary position. Applicants are accepted periodically throughout the year.

Finance Office -
Assist the controller's office with the accounting functions of the Society. (Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.)
Legal Research -
Assist the Research and Outreach Program by conducting legal research on the domestic application of international law, and issues related to legal reform and the rule of law. (Applicants should have completed at least two courses in international law, including public international law. LLM students are encouraged to apply.)
Library and Information Services -
Respond to reference requests, process materials for the library collection, perform bibliographic database entry, and assist with development of research guides and other electronic resources. The ASIL Library is open to the public and provides services and resources to the local international law community and electronically to a global audience of international lawyers and researchers. The focus of the Society’s 20,000-volume library collection is on resources of public and private international law including texts and treatises, journals of international law and other materials. Additional information resources include Electronic Information System for International Law (EISIL), the ASIL Guide to Electronic Resources for International Law (ERG), and the ASIL Publications Index (ASILEX).
