The Arthur C. Helton Fellowship Program 2008 Selection Committee

Summary

Created on the recommendation of the 2003-2004 Honors Committee, the Arthur C. Helton Fellowship Program has recognized the remarkable legacy of our Society colleague who died in the August 19, 2003 bombing of the UN mission in Baghdad along with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Sergio Vieira de Mello and 20 others. by supporting law students and young professionals with micro-grants to pursue law-related public service work and research in areas of human rights and humanitarian affairs.

Objective

The ASIL’s objective is to carry on the legacy of Arthur C. Helton’s work by investing in the best ideas from the most capable people, determined by a competitive merit review.

Selection Committee

The merit review system is at the very heart of ASIL's selection of the projects through which the fellowship’s mission is achieved. The ASIL Helton Selection Committee evaluates proposals for research and law-related public service projects using two criteria: the intellectual merit of the proposed activity and the broader impacts of their research or fieldwork on society.
