Developing Tomorrows International Lawyers
As part of ASIL's mission to foster the study of international law, ASIL promotes the development of opportunities in international law programs for individuals at every stage of their career. To achieve this mission, ASIL provides services to the public and professionals involved with or interested in a career in international law, including professional development activities, publications, research, public information, professional standards, advocacy, and recognition for achievement and service.
Resources
With the historical evolution and ever-changing development of present-day international law has come a greater need for more skilled, experienced, and specialized attorneys in the public, private and academic legal sectors. Because a career in international law is often times more difficult to find than a more traditional legal position in local or domestic law, ASIL can provide you with the support you need.
Funded in part by contributions from ASIL members, ASIL provides financial assistance through its Arthur C. Helton Fellowship Program in the form of "micro-grants" for law students and young professionals to pursue field work and research on significant issues involving international law, human rights, humanitarian affairs, and related areas. In addition, the ASIL Career Development Program maintains listings on over 100 organizations and institutions' internship, fellowship and pro bono opportunities that include or directly focus on the practice of international law.
Events
ASIL is committed to providing an open forum for networking, social interaction and sharing of activities and talents among various public and private international legal professionals and those interested in the field of international law as well as improving communication between international legal professionals and the community at large. The ASIL Events Calendar lists upcoming international law related events and announcements, and the ASIL News Media Center covers happenings and announcements about members.
Publications
ASIL oversees Careers in International Law: A Guide to Career Paths and Internships in International Law, a quintessential tool for anyone considering a successful career in international law. This publication addresses key issues in the development of an international law career from the perspective of over twenty international legal experts that are members of ASIL.
