I .Summer Associates Briefing Series

As part of ASIL’s career development program, the annual summer associates briefing series is designed for summer associates at participating ASIL partnership law firms.

The briefing sessions provide associates the opportunity to engage with international legal practitioners representing a broad range of specialized areas of international law. Real world perspectives on the development of practical lawyering skills related to careers within the public and private sectors of international law are emphasized throughout each session.

2011 Summer Associate Briefing Series will take place in New York (June 28, 2011)  Washington, DC (late July 2011) and Los Angeles early-August 2011).

Past Summer Associate Briefings:

• Perspectives on Practice in International Trade, Finance, and Investment : This session focused on the legal practice of international trade, finance, and investment. Featured guest speakers included: David Caron, ASIL President and Professor, University of California, Berkley Law; Himamauli Das, Assistant General Counsel for International Affairs, U.S. Treasury Department; and Abby Cohen Smutny, ASIL Executive Council member and Partner, White & Case LLP.

II. Career Panels

ASIL in partnership with the New Professionals Interest Group annually hosts career panel events featuring international legal practitioners from a variety of international legal practice areas. Panelists discuss their own career paths, provide advice on developing a career in international law, and offer their informal views in an open mic setting. The panel sessions are free and open to all interested in pursuing or enhancing their careers in international law.
