On November 26, 2014, the UN General Assembly (the Assembly) adopted six resolutions regarding the question of Palestine and possible solutions and steps forward for the situation in the Middle East.  According to the press release, four of the resolutions related to the Palestinian people’s inalienable rights, the mandate of the Division for Palestinian Rights of the Secretariat, the Department of Public Information of the Secretariat special programme on the question of Palestine, and the peaceful settlement of the issue, including Israel’s occupation of the West Bank and its continued settlement construction.  A fifth resolution reminded Israel that “all administrative and legislative measures taken by Israel to alter the legal status of the Holy City of Jerusalem were null and void” and “expressed grave concern in particular over the recent series of negative incidents in East Jerusalem, and stressed that a comprehensive, just and lasting solution to the question of the entire city should take into account the legitimate concerns of both sides.”  The final resolution “called upon Israel to withdraw to the pre-1967 borders [of the Golan Heights], noting that peace would not be achieved without Israel’s serious commitment to that withdrawal” and asked that Israel honor previous Assembly resolutions on the subject.
