On Thursday, November 5th at 6:30pm the New Professionals Interest Group will sponsor the first meeting of a French-language conversation group at Tillar House. Each meeting will begin with a short presentation on a legal topic by a native French speaker, followed by an informal question-and-answer period (questions on the vocabulary used in the presentation are welcome, as are more substantive questions), and finally, discussion on any topic among those present, either en masse or in small groups. The aim is to provide French speakers the opportunity to practice their speaking skills in an informal environment, with particular attention to legal terminology and concepts. Light refreshments will be served.

Our first speaker will be Badr Zerhdoud, a Visiting Researcher at the Georgetown Law Center. Badr is a French-Moroccan citizen and a PhD candidate at the Faculty of Law of the University of Geneva (Switzerland). His areas of expertise are international environmental law, investment law, and global health law. His presentation will be on the rise of investor-state arbitration with reference to investment disputes in the water sector.
