A prime objective of ASIL's 2001-2002 headquarters renovation was
to create more expansive and flexible public meeting space. The
Society accomplished this by devoting Tillar House’s entire
second floor – the original main living quarters' dining room,
parlor, and den – to meeting space that could accommodate
small meetings or larger public lectures.
The Hauser Learning Center was the result. Named in appreciation
of the generous financial support provided by Rita E. Hauser and
the Hauser Foundation, the Hauser Center is notable for its preserved
historic character, best exemplified by the restored wood paneling
and floors, preserved mouldings, and original leaded glass French
windows.
The Center’s flexibility is defined by new oversized pocket
doors that enable the two main meeting rooms – the board room
and conference room – to be united as one large space. Modular
furniture makes possible events from committee and board meetings
to theatre-style lectures and classroom-style presentations, and
even elegant dinner programs.
Just off the Hauser Center is the Rogers Room, the receiving lobby
or breakout space for public events. The Rogers Room is dedicated
in honor of William D. Rogers, former ASIL President (1972-1974)
and retired Senior Partner, Arnold & Porter.
Host an ASIL Briefing,
Lecture or Panel Discussion
ASIL conducts a wide variety of educational programs in the Hauser
Learning Center at Tillar House. The topics range from the implications
of specific trade cases to the effects on human rights protections
of international decisions. Program formats also can vary widely,
from lectures for large groups to roundtable discussions for a few
participants. Depending on the topic and format, attendees are drawn
from area law firms, government agencies, international bodies,
local universities, corporate offices, embassies and other NGOs.
ASIL invites firms and institutions to join in hosting or sponsoring
such events, on topics of either particular or general interest.
Hosts/sponsors of public events receive a package of associated
recognition benefits in exchange for their financial support of
the Society. Such sponsorships begin at $1,000, depending on event
details. To learn more, contact Rick
LaRue, ASIL Deputy Director, at 202-939-6000.
ASIL regularly holds briefings on
a wide range of issues of interest in international
law. Visit our calendar
page for a complete listing of ASIL events.
