ASIL Annual Giving:
Fostering a Wider Understanding of International Law
Through the Annual Giving program, members and supporters of ASIL
make charitable donations to support the Society’s special
Outreach Programs. This work seeks to build bridges to constituencies
traditionally “outside” the field but which now are
increasingly affecting or affected by international law; among them
are the U.S. courts, the media, the U.S. military, and other policy
makers and opinion leaders. ASIL provides forums for our members
and these groups to interact, and tailors resource materials to
help meet their needs (for example, please see our “Tools
for Media” or the description of the Judicial Outreach Program
elsewhere on this Web site).
ASIL dedicates its Annual Fund to support these outreach programs.
We encourage members to join their ASIL colleagues in contributing
to a wider understanding of international law.
Contributions may be 100% deductible for U.S. taxpayers.
James Brown Scott was the lifeblood
of the Society in its early years. A protégé
of Elihu Root, he was the first editor of the American
Journal of International Law and the third ASIL
president, serving from 1929 to 1939. Time and again
he took the extra step to ensure the Society’s
success. ASIL honors his example of year-in and year-out
commitment by dedicating its most generous annual giving
club to him. James Brown Scott Club members contribute
$1,000 or more to the ASIL.
